NEW DELHI: The Centre aims to install one lakh rooftop solar systems every four to five days under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, accelerating efforts to achieve its target of covering one crore households by March 2027. Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi announced the target at the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit 2026 in New Delhi. He said streamlined procedures have reduced installation timelines from 44 days to just six days. Joshi highlighted that 65 lakh households have been covered under the programme, of which 21 lakh are receiving zero electricity bills. Additionally, beneficiaries generating surplus electricity have received ₹700 crore through payments for power supplied to distribution companies. Launched in February 2024 with an outlay of ₹75,021 crore, the scheme promotes residential rooftop solar adoption through subsidies of up to ₹78,000 for eligible households installing systems of 3 kW or above.
