Goan Firm, German Ship Designer Partner to Develop Advanced Indian Cargo Vessels.

Buoyancy Consultants and Neptun Ship Design Aim to Strengthen India’s Domestic Shipbuilding Capabilities.

GOA: Goan maritime engineering firm Buoyancy Consultants has partnered with Germany-based Neptun Ship Design to develop advanced vessel designs for India’s growing maritime sector. The two companies signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) at SMM Hamburg, a leading global maritime trade fair. The partnership will focus on container vessels, passenger ships and scientific research vessels, while enabling access to proven international design technologies, engineering expertise and knowledge transfer. The collaboration comes as India seeks to expand domestic shipbuilding and reduce dependence on foreign shipping lines. Currently, a large share of India’s export-import cargo is carried by foreign-flagged vessels, resulting in significant annual freight outflows. The government plans to build a fleet of 51 commercial vessels over the next five years, backed by around ₹59,000 crore in investment. Around 15 container ships could be ordered from Indian shipyards in the coming financial year, creating significant opportunities for domestic maritime companies and global technology partners.
