Mazagon Dock Emerges as Sole EoI Applicant for Dighi Greenfield Shipbuilding Cluster.

Anchor Shipyard Required to Commit at Least ₹77,500 Crore Investment for Mega Facility.

MUMBAI: Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd has emerged as the sole applicant to submit an Expression of Interest (EoI) for the proposed greenfield shipbuilding cluster at Dighi, Maharashtra. The facility is planned as a major addition to India’s shipbuilding infrastructure and is intended to strengthen domestic capacity for constructing large, advanced vessels. Under the terms of the EoI, the selected anchor shipyard will be required to commit at least ₹77,500 crore to develop the facility. Mazagon Dock’s sole participation highlights the strategic importance of the project as India seeks to expand its maritime manufacturing capabilities and reduce dependence on overseas shipbuilding. The proposed cluster is expected to support ship construction, related engineering activities, and the development of a wider maritime ecosystem. The initiative also aligns with the government’s broader push to make India a globally competitive shipbuilding and maritime hub, while generating investment, employment, and opportunities for domestic suppliers and ancillary industries.
