Adani Ports to Open Empty Container Yard Inside Mundra Amid Depot Strike.

New Facility Aims to Ease Container Movement as Transport Disruptions Hit Export-Import Trade.

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) will open a dedicated empty container yard inside Mundra Port amid an ongoing strike by empty container depot operators and transporters outside the port. The move follows a new system APSEZ introduced on September 1 to handle and store empty export-import containers within the port area. Mundra handles around 35% of India’s container trade, including nearly 1.6 million TEUs of empty containers annually, making the disruption a major concern for exporters and importers. The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) has urged the government to intervene and ensure uninterrupted container movement. APSEZ said the new yard will improve coordination among Customs, shipping lines, terminal operators and transporters. The company has also deployed around 400 electric tractor-trailers to move empty containers within the port. However, the transport strike continues to create challenges for moving containers from the port to factories and container freight stations, potentially affecting cargo stuffing and export schedules.
