SEBI-backed awareness drive expected within six months aims to widen investor participation and boost infrastructure funding The Bharat InvITs Association is planning a dedicated awareness campaign to popularise Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs) among retail investors, with support from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). The campaign is expected to begin within the next six months. N.S. Venkatesh, CEO of the association, said greater awareness could expand the investor base, improve market liquidity and channel household savings into India’s growing infrastructure sector. The initiative will focus on explaining InvITs and their potential benefits through financial literacy programmes and outreach by individual trusts. InvITs pool investments in operational infrastructure assets such as highways, power transmission lines, pipelines and telecom networks. Listed InvIT units can be traded on stock exchanges, allowing retail investors to participate in infrastructure-linked income streams. The association is also discussing funding mechanisms for the campaign. India’s InvIT market is expanding, particularly in the roads sector, while more privately placed trusts are considering public listings to attract a broader investor base. Venkatesh highlighted investor protection measures, including disclosure requirements, asset valuation and cash-flow distribution norms.
