Projects cover airport expansion, strategic road connectivity, hydropower, heritage conservation and water security. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated five major development initiatives worth about ₹3,350 crore in Ladakh on Thursday, aimed at strengthening connectivity, energy infrastructure, cultural preservation, and water security. A key highlight is the new passenger terminal at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh, built at a cost of ₹640 crore. Spread across 23,800 square metres, the terminal can handle 35 lakh passengers annually and incorporates geothermal energy for improved efficiency. The Prime Minister also dedicated the 298-km Nimmu-Padum-Darcha Road, constructed by the Border Roads Organisation. Connecting Leh with Darcha in Himachal Pradesh through Zanskar Valley, the route will improve regional connectivity and support defence logistics. Other projects include the 9 MW Hanu small hydropower project and a 66 kV double-circuit transmission line connecting Dah, Hanu and Khaltsi. The initiatives also feature India's first Petroglyph Conservation Park at Sindhu Ghat and 40 water bodies developed across villages under Project Him Sarovar, strengthening heritage protection and local water availability.
