IBM to Deploy India’s First Quantum Computer in Amaravati by Early 2027.

Andhra Pradesh’s Quantum Valley initiative aims to advance quantum research, enterprise applications and post-quantum cybersecurity. IBM plans to deploy what it describes as India’s largest quantum computer at a newly developed technology park in Amaravati in early 2027. The facility is part of Andhra Pradesh’s Quantum Valley initiative, backed by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and being implemented in partnership with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). IBM India Managing Director Sandip Patel said the facility was nearly ready, with the machines expected to arrive early next year. The initiative will focus on developing practical quantum computing applications and preparing Indian enterprises for post-quantum cryptography. Patel emphasised that building infrastructure alone would not be sufficient; developing applications and skilled professionals would be equally important. According to NITI Aayog, India will need around 100,000 quantum developers to strengthen its position in the field during the 2030s. Although widespread real-world applications may still be three to five years away, IBM is exploring use cases, including financial market predictions, to demonstrate quantum computing’s potential across industries.
