Visakhapatnam Port Authority Eyes 50% Stake in Andhra Pradesh’s Mulapeta Port.

The proposed joint venture aims to strengthen port operations, investment, and maritime infrastructure along Andhra Pradesh’s coastline.   The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) is exploring a 50% stake in the Mulapeta port being developed by the Andhra Pradesh government, signalling a potential partnership to strengthen the state’s maritime infrastructure. The proposed joint venture is expected to combine the port authority's expertise and resources with the state government's to support the development and operation of the upcoming port. Meanwhile, the state government, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, is holding discussions with the Centre to resolve issues concerning approximately 3,000 acres of salt land at Mulapeta. The land, reportedly allotted to VPA at ₹1 per acre, is considered crucial for port operations and the proposed joint venture. Resolving the land-related issues will be an important step towards advancing the partnership and facilitating port development. The proposed investment could strengthen cargo-handling capacity, improve regional connectivity and support industrial growth, positioning Mulapeta as a significant maritime infrastructure hub in Andhra Pradesh.
