Tata Power plans to bid for two electricity distribution companies in Uttar Pradesh—Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam and Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam—once tender documents are released.
Aiming to expand its transmission and distribution business, Tata Power currently serves 12.5 million customers and targets 40 million in five years. The move aligns with UP’s goal to privatise the discoms to reduce losses and enhance efficiency, likely through a public-private partnership. Tata Power’s successful management of Odisha discoms, with profits rising by 86% since takeover, strengthens its position to secure the UP contracts.
