Andhra Pradesh Begins Land Acquisition for Mulapeta Port Expansion.

The Andhra Pradesh government has initiated the process of acquiring 1,903 acres for the second phase of the Mulapeta Port (formerly Bhavanapadu Port) in Santabommali mandal, as the first phase of the ₹4,362-crore deep-sea greenfield project crosses 80% completion. The port is expected to become operational by November 2026, with road connectivity to NH-16 progressing rapidly. Designed with an 18-metre draft and four berths, the port will handle 23.5 million tonnes of cargo annually, accommodating Panamax and Capesize vessels. The Centre has also approved the transfer of 385 acres of Naupada salt lands to improve road and rail access. The state has sanctioned ₹440 crore as compensation for displaced farmers, while revenue officials identify land across several villages for expansion. Once operational, Mulapeta Port is expected to reduce congestion at Visakhapatnam Port and strengthen cargo connectivity for Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.
