Retired Officials Take Charge to Ensure Continuity, Transparency & Homebuyer Protection.
Tamil Nadu Appoints Interim Panel to Lead TNRERA After Mass Resignations.
The Tamil Nadu government has appointed an interim panel to manage the Tamil Nadu Real Estate Regulatory Authority (TNRERA) after the resignation of its chairperson and members. Retired IAS officer K. Phanindra Reddy has been named chairperson, while retired district judge A. Nazir Ahamed and retired IAS officer Reeta Harish Thakkar will serve as members. The state government has superseded TNRERA for six months or until the authority is reconstituted, whichever comes first. During this period, the interim panel will exercise all statutory powers and perform duties under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016. Officials stated that temporary appointments are permitted under the Act when the authority is unable to function. The government has also approached the Madras High Court to nominate a judge for the search committee responsible for appointing permanent members. This move ensures the real estate sector remains regulated and homebuyers are protected across Tamil Nadu.
