Crown Packaging Breaks Ground on ₹2,078 Crore Aluminium Can Plant in Unnao
Lucknow, September 9: Crown Packaging India Private Limited, the Indian subsidiary of global packaging company Crown Holdings, has laid the foundation stone for its first greenfield aluminium beverage can manufacturing facility in India at the Integrated Manufacturing & Logistics Cluster (IMLC), Unnao, Uttar Pradesh.
With a proposed investment of ₹2,078.44 crore, the project marks Crown Holdings’ entry into manufacturing in India. The facility will be developed across approximately 40 acres at Plot No. 4, IMLC Unnao and will manufacture aluminium beverage cans for India’s beverage industry.
The project is expected to generate more than 200 direct jobs and over 1,500 indirect employment opportunities, while supporting additional business activity across logistics, warehousing, transportation, maintenance and local supplier networks.
₹2,078 Crore Investment Marks Crown’s Manufacturing Entry into India
Speaking at the foundation-stone ceremony, Uttar Pradesh Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ said the state is witnessing industrial projects move from registration towards implementation, creating employment opportunities.
He cited Crown’s Unnao project as an example of international companies investing in Uttar Pradesh’s industrial ecosystem.
The minister also referred to the state’s efforts towards the US$1 trillion economy goal, highlighting more than 36 sector-specific policies and incentives available to national and international companies.
Production Capacity to Reach 178.6 Crore Cans Annually
The manufacturing facility is planned with an initial installed production capacity of approximately 116.2 crore aluminium beverage cans per year.
Its annual capacity can subsequently increase to approximately 178.6 crore cans.
Production is estimated at around 67 crore cans during the first year, with annual output projected to reach approximately 170 crore cans by the ninth and tenth years.
The plant is expected to expand aluminium beverage-can manufacturing capacity while supporting the wider packaging and beverage supply chain.
Over 1,500 Indirect Employment Opportunities
Beyond its direct workforce, the project is expected to create opportunities for businesses and workers involved in:
- Logistics and transportation
- Warehousing
- Plant maintenance
- Local sourcing
- Supplier and vendor networks
- Ancillary manufacturing and services
The facility is expected to generate more than 200 direct employment opportunities and over 1,500 indirect jobs.
Crown Packaging India
Crown Packaging India Private Limited was incorporated in March 2026 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Crown Holdings. The company has its registered office in Lucknow.
The project has been evaluated under Uttar Pradesh’s FDI, Fortune Global 500 and Fortune India 500 Companies Investment Promotion Policy, 2023.
Senior Officials Attend Groundbreaking Ceremony
The foundation-stone ceremony was attended by senior state government and investment-promotion officials, including Deepak Kumar, Infrastructure & Industrial Development Commissioner (IIDC); Alok Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary, Infrastructure & Industrial Development; Manoj Kumar Singh, CEO, State Transformation Commission; and Shashank Chaudhary, ACEO, Invest UP.
Representing Crown Holdings were Djalma Novaes Jr., Executive Vice President & COO, and Mark Ketcheson, President, Crown Bevcan EMEA.
Boost to Uttar Pradesh’s Manufacturing Ecosystem
The Crown Packaging facility is expected to contribute to the broader industrial ecosystem around Unnao by generating demand for logistics, transportation, warehousing, maintenance, local sourcing and ancillary services.
The investment also adds a major manufacturing project to Uttar Pradesh’s industrial pipeline while expanding employment and business opportunities in the region.
