The proposed expansion of the Pune-Mumbai Expressway to 10 lanes is facing a fresh delay after the Cabinet Infrastructure Committee directed the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to conduct additional surveys before finalising the project. The survey exercise is expected to take at least a month, potentially delaying the project’s formal approval and construction schedule. MSRDC had planned to begin construction after the monsoon, with September identified as the likely start date. However, officials now indicate that work is unlikely to begin on the earlier timeline. The Maharashtra government has already granted in-principle approval for developing a uniform 10-lane corridor, but formal clearance from the Cabinet Infrastructure Committee remains pending. The expansion aims to improve traffic flow and increase capacity on the busy Pune-Mumbai route. However, the additional surveys and subsequent approval process are expected to push back the project timeline, highlighting the challenges of executing large-scale infrastructure upgrades.
