Uttar Pradesh Becomes India’s No. 2 Rooftop Solar State.

Uttar Pradesh has surpassed Maharashtra to become India's second-largest residential rooftop solar state under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, with 6,74,393 rooftop solar installations, trailing only Gujarat. The state has achieved an installed rooftop solar capacity of approximately 2.28 GW, enabling lakhs of households to reduce electricity bills and earn additional income through net metering. According to UPNEDA, these systems collectively save consumers around ₹16.5 crore every day in electricity costs. The rapid growth has also strengthened the state's renewable energy ecosystem, with over 7,000 companies participating in the solar value chain and creating employment for more than 85,000 people. Officials estimate that rooftop solar has conserved over 9,000 acres of land by reducing the need for large solar parks. The installed capacity is expected to generate 3.8 billion units of clean electricity annually while preventing over 2.7 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions, supporting India's clean energy goals.
