₹21,500 Cr Bahuda Port in Odisha to Become India’s 14th Major Port.

India is set to add a new major port with a massive ₹21,500 crore investment in Odisha’s Ganjam district. Paradip Port Authority, Visakhapatnam Port Authority, Sagarmala Finance Corporation Ltd (SFCL), and the Odisha government will jointly develop the Bahuda Port, with a memorandum of understanding to be signed on September 20 in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Planned with a capacity of 150 million tonnes, Bahuda will be India’s 14th major port and Odisha’s second state-run port after Paradip. The facility will handle dry bulk carriers of up to 1,50,000 deadweight tons (DWT) and container vessels of 6,000 TEU capacity. Funding support will come from SFCL, an RBI-registered NBFC created to finance maritime projects. SFCL will extend tailored loans for port modernisation, connectivity, and coastal development. The Bahuda project is expected to boost Odisha’s maritime infrastructure and strengthen India’s eastern trade corridor.
