Glass skywalk at 3,200 metres to boost adventure tourism and regional connectivity.
World’s Highest Skywalk Planned in Sikkim as Scindia Reviews ₹220-Crore Bhaleydhunga Project.
Union Minister for Communications and Development of the North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia, reviewed the progress of the ambitious Bhaleydhunga Skywalk Project during his official visit to Namchi, Sikkim, on May 15. The ₹220-crore project is being developed under the Prime Minister's Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE). Once completed, the 240-metre-long circular glass skywalk, proposed at an elevation of 3,200 metres, is set to become the world’s highest of its kind. Featuring a transparent glass floor cantilevered over a Himalayan valley, the structure will offer visitors a 360-degree panoramic view of snow-clad peaks and the Terai plains. The skywalk will complement the Bhaleydhunga Ropeway, inaugurated in September 2024, which spans 3.5 km with 18 cabins and can carry 400 passengers per hour across elevations from 1,800 to 3,500 metres. Together, the projects are expected to significantly enhance Sikkim’s tourism infrastructure and its appeal to adventure tourism.
