GRSE Lays Keel for Fourth Vessel Under German MPV Export Project.
Kolkata-based defence public sector undertaking Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE) has laid the keel for the fourth vessel under its multi-purpose vessel (MPV) project for German shipping company Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler and Reederei GmbH & Co. KG. The keel-laying marks a key milestone in a 12-vessel construction and delivery contract, the largest commercial shipbuilding export order secured by GRSE to date. The project involves the design and construction of advanced CORAL 7500 DWT MPVs, jointly developed by GRSE and Carsten Rehder. Each vessel will be 120 metres long and capable of carrying up to 7,500 metric tonnes of cargo, catering to diverse global shipping requirements. The initial contract for four vessels was signed in 2024, with subsequent agreements expanding the order book to 12 ships. While traditionally focused on warship manufacturing for the Indian Navy and Coast Guard, GRSE’s expanding commercial portfolio underscores its strategic push into international markets and highlights India’s growing capabilities in export-oriented shipbuilding.
