Milestone underscores Nhava Sheva’s strength as India’s premier container gateway.
JN Port Crosses 8 Million TEU Mark, Sets New Cargo Handling Record.
Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has surpassed the 8 million TEU cargo handling milestone in FY26, the highest volume recorded since the port began operations in 1989. Located at Nhava Sheva near Mumbai, JN Port is India’s largest container gateway by capacity and the country’s second-largest by volumes handled. In FY25, the port handled 7.301 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), making the latest achievement a significant year-on-year jump. A TEU is the standard unit used to measure containerised cargo globally. JN Port operates through five container terminals, including Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals operated by PSA International, Gateway Terminals India run by APM Terminals and Container Corporation of India Ltd, and multiple terminals managed by DP World. The record performance reflects robust EXIM trade, improved terminal efficiencies, and growing confidence in India’s container logistics ecosystem.
