Kerala Clarifies ₹10,000 Crore Shipbuilding Plan After Tata Group Denial.

The Kerala Government has clarified that the ₹10,000 crore figure linked to a proposed shipbuilding project represents its long-term investment target for the maritime sector rather than a confirmed proposal from the Tata Group. The clarification came after the Tata Group denied reports that it had sought approval for a ₹ 10,000-crore shipbuilding yard in the state. According to the government, the investment potential is expected to be achieved over the coming years through multiple projects and investors. As part of this strategy, Kerala has already facilitated an unincorporated joint venture between Malabar Cements Ltd and Artson Ltd, a Tata Projects company, to develop a shipbuilding facility at Cochin Port. The project has received key institutional approvals, with waterfront land allocated by the Cochin Port Authority and preliminary development already underway. The initiative is intended to lay the foundation for a modern shipbuilding ecosystem and strengthen Kerala's maritime industry.
