JNPA Explores DFC Rail Links to Speed Up Container Evacuation.

Kharbhav and New Nilanje stations could strengthen freight connectivity, reduce transit time and ease road congestion.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) is exploring stronger rail connectivity through the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) to accelerate container evacuation and reduce road congestion. JNPA Chairman Gaurav Dayal, along with senior officials, inspected key railway infrastructure along the DFC route. The delegation visited the newly developed Kharbhav Railway Station to assess its potential integration with the DFC network. The move is expected to improve the movement of containerised cargo from JNPA to major consumption and distribution hubs in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, helping reduce transit times and dependence on road transport. Officials also visited the Bhiwandi Warehousing Hub to review supply-chain capacity, storage readiness and last-mile logistics efficiency. The team subsequently inspected New Nilanje Railway Station to evaluate its potential as an additional freight node. JNPA said efficient multimodal connectivity is essential for modern port operations. Strengthening rail links through these strategic stations could create faster, more efficient and environmentally sustainable cargo evacuation routes.
