Bihar Explores Agri-PV to Combine Farming with Solar Energy.
Agri-PV could help Bihar boost farmers’ incomes while expanding clean energy without sacrificing productive farmland.
Bihar is exploring Agri-Photovoltaic (Agri-PV) models that combine agricultural activities with solar power generation, offering a potential solution to the state’s limited land availability and growing clean-energy needs. Speakers at the Bihar Agri-PV Summit 2026 highlighted the state’s strong potential to integrate solar projects with farming, particularly in areas where horticulture and allied agricultural activities are already practised. Instead of diverting fertile farmland exclusively for solar installations, Agri-PV can allow farmers to continue cultivation while generating renewable electricity. Experts said stronger coordination between the agriculture and energy sectors could increase farmers’ incomes, create new economic opportunities and support Bihar’s renewable-energy targets. The summit also stressed the importance of collaboration among the government, private sector, farmers, technical experts and financial institutions to scale up Agri-PV projects. With the right technology, planning and policy support, Bihar could develop a model where agriculture and clean energy work together, creating additional value from the same land.
