Goa Shipyard to Build New Jaigarh Facility to Boost India’s Shipbuilding Vision.

Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) is set to establish a major new shipbuilding facility at Jaigad Creek in Maharashtra, reinforcing India’s ambition to become a global maritime manufacturing hub. The company has identified nearly 660 acres of intertidal zone (ITZ) land for the project and plans to appoint Germany’s Inros Lackner SE as the project consultant. The proposed shipyard is expected to significantly enhance GSL’s shipbuilding and repair capabilities while supporting the government’s vision of expanding indigenous ship construction. The facility will cater to both defence and commercial shipbuilding requirements, helping reduce dependence on foreign shipyards and creating employment opportunities in the region. With India focusing on strengthening its maritime infrastructure and increasing domestic manufacturing under the Make in India initiative, the Jaigarh project is expected to play a crucial role in boosting shipbuilding capacity, technological expertise, and the country's competitiveness in the global maritime industry.
