Tata Group chief to exit in February 2027, marking the end of a landmark era of growth and strategic expansion.
N Chandrasekaran to Step Down as Tata Sons Chairman After Transformative Decade.
N. Chandrasekaran has announced that he will step down as Chairman of Tata Sons when his term ends in February 2027, confirming he will not seek reappointment after the board failed to reach a consensus on extending his tenure. Since taking charge in 2017, Chandrasekaran has reshaped the Tata Group through major acquisitions, mergers, and expansion into aviation, semiconductors, electronics, digital businesses, and consumer technology. Under his leadership, the combined revenues of listed Tata companies nearly doubled, while profits and market capitalisation grew significantly. He spearheaded the acquisition and integration of Air India, consolidated Tata’s consumer businesses, and strengthened its digital ecosystem through Tata Neu. Following news of his decision, Tata Group stocks lost over ₹44,000 crore in market value, with TCS, Tata Motors, and Tejas Networks among the biggest decliners, reflecting investor concerns over the leadership transition.
