KPCL Achieves Record 15,509 Million Units of Hydropower Generation in FY26.

State-owned Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) has set a new benchmark by generating a record 15,509 million units of hydropower during the financial year 2025–26, officials said in Bengaluru. The milestone underscores Karnataka’s strong position among India’s leading hydropower-producing states, with an installed capacity of 3.63 GW. According to the Energy Department, power generation came from multiple river systems, including stations in the Sharavathi, Kali, Varahi, Cauvery, Krishna and Tungabhadra valleys. The previous record stood at 13,853 million units in 2024–25. KPCL Managing Director and Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) Gaurav Gupta said improved maintenance practices helped even the oldest hydel stations deliver strong performance. Notably, the Sharavathi and Varahi valleys together generated a record 8,696 million units. Energy Minister KJ George credited good rainfall and efficient upkeep for the achievement, praising KPCL’s officers and staff for meeting the state’s growing power demand.
