Strengthening clean energy cooperation for regional power security.
Tata Power Expands Bhutan Hydropower Tie-Up Beyond 5 GW.
Tata Power has expanded its clean energy partnership with Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) by adding the 404 MW Nyera Amari I & II hydropower project to their joint pipeline in the Bhutan. This follows an amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding originally signed in November 2024, which targeted at least 4,500 MW of hydropower development. With the new project, the total identified capacity rises to 5,033 MW. The partnership includes major projects such as Khorlochhu (600 MW), Dorjilung (1,125 MW), Gongri Reservoir with Jeri Pumped Storage (2,540 MW), Chamkharchhu IV (364 MW) and Nyera Amari I & II. Tata Power and DGPC also plan to jointly develop 500 MW of solar capacity. Work has already begun on Khorlochhu and Dorjilung, accounting for about 35% of the portfolio. Tata Power CEO and MD Praveer Sinha said the partnership supports Bhutan’s ambition to reach 25 GW generation capacity and ensures India’s access to reliable, clean power during peak demand.
