Supreme Court Directs MEA to Trace Indian Seafarers After Drone Attack Near Ukraine.

The Supreme Court has directed the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Indian Embassies in Ukraine and Romania to immediately determine the whereabouts of four Indian seafarers aboard a cargo vessel that was struck in a drone attack near Ukraine. A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant noted conflicting reports regarding the crew’s fate. While one account claimed all four Indian sailors had drowned, another stated that two were rescued at the scene and two others escaped by jumping into the sea and were later taken into the care of the Romanian Coast Guard. The court instructed the MEA to use all available diplomatic channels to verify the facts and ensure prompt action. Representing the Centre, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta assured the court that the Indian missions in Romania and Ukraine were actively gathering accurate information and would update the court at the earliest.
