Project to include large battery storage as PSU steps up clean energy expansion.
GAIL Plans ₹3,294 Crore 600 MW Solar Project in Uttar Pradesh.
India’s largest gas transmission and marketing company, GAIL (India) Limited, has announced plans to set up a 600 MW greenfield solar power project in Uttar Pradesh at an estimated cost of ₹3,294.86 crore. The company disclosed the proposal in a regulatory filing on Monday. The project will comprise 600 MW of solar generation capacity along with a 550 MWh co-located battery energy storage system (BESS), aimed at improving grid reliability and ensuring efficient power supply. GAIL said the project is expected to be completed within 15 months from the award of the EPC contract and will be financed through a mix of debt and equity. Currently, GAIL operates around 29 MW of solar capacity at full utilisation. The proposed project represents a major scale-up of its renewable energy portfolio and aligns with India’s broader clean energy push to expand non-fossil fuel capacity, enhance grid stability, and reduce carbon emissions.
