Kongsberg to Deliver India’s First All-Electric Tug at Deendayal Port.

Norway-based Kongsberg Maritime has signed a landmark deal to supply India’s first fully electric tug, marking a breakthrough in the nation’s Green Tug Transition Programme (GTTP). The tug, designed by NavNautik India, will feature a 60-ton bollard pull and is scheduled for delivery at Deendayal Port, Gujarat, by Q4 2026. This project represents the world’s first full-electric tug integration, a major step in maritime decarbonisation. The equipment package includes Kongsberg’s permanent magnet-driven azimuth thrusters, advanced electrical systems with energy storage, automation (K-Chief, K-Chief PMS), and digital solutions for performance monitoring. Awarded by Mandovi Drydocks in partnership with Ripley Group, the initiative will also receive lifecycle support from Kongsberg Maritime India’s Global Customer Support team. While Kongsberg has supplied hybrid e-tug solutions worldwide, this marks its first all-electric tug contract. Positioned on the Gulf of Kutch, Deendayal Port will pioneer India’s transition to green shipping, reinforcing the country’s sustainability and decarbonisation goals.
