Ivory Coast Commissions 52.4 MW Solar Plant to Accelerate Renewable Energy Transition.

Ivory Coast has commissioned a 52.4 MW solar power plant, marking a major milestone in its push to expand renewable energy and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The project aligns with the government’s strategy to raise the share of renewables in the national electricity mix to 46% by 2035 and reinforce the country’s role as a key power supplier in West Africa. Speaking at the inauguration, Mines Minister Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly said the project reflects the country’s commitment to accelerating the energy transition by diversifying electricity sources. Ivory Coast currently has an installed power capacity of around 3,000 MW, largely based on oil and gas, and exports electricity to several neighbouring countries. The Ferke Solar plant will supply power to about 370,000 households, benefiting nearly two million people in the northern Ferkessedougou region. The project was developed and financed by PFO Africa through its subsidiary PFO Energies under a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer model.
