Manufacturing scale, storage and grid upgrades key to India’s clean-energy leap.
India’s Solar Boom Could Power Exports to Europe: Renewables Norway CEO.
India’s rapidly expanding solar sector presents a major opportunity to become a global exporter of renewable energy components, particularly to Europe, according to Renewables Norway. Bard Vegar Solhjell, CEO of Fornybar Norge, said India could supply European markets if it builds manufacturing capacity across the solar value chain—from rare earths to wafers and cells. Speaking during a Norway delegation’s visit to India, Solhjell highlighted India’s growing role as the world’s third-largest renewables developer and a critical player in the global energy transition. Discussions with Indian ministries and think tanks focused on energy security, solar paired with battery storage, and transmission bottlenecks. He also identified offshore wind and pumped hydro storage as areas of collaboration, leveraging Norway’s hydropower expertise. May‑Elin Stener said Norwegian firms with advanced clean-energy solutions are keen to scale in India with local partners, underscoring deepening bilateral cooperation.
