Kerala CM Urges Tamil Nadu to Ease Stone Transport Curbs for Infrastructure Projects.

Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to relax restrictions on the inter-state transportation of rough stones and construction materials, warning that the curbs are disrupting critical infrastructure projects. In a letter dated July 28, Satheesan said the July 9 gazette notification issued by Tamil Nadu has significantly affected the movement of stone aggregates from Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, and Kanyakumari, which are key suppliers for Kerala’s national highway projects. He noted that the shortage has disrupted the construction supply chain and could delay strategically important developments. Satheesan emphasized that these projects will strengthen regional connectivity, improve logistics, boost trade and tourism, and provide seamless access to the Vizhinjam International Seaport and Vallarpadam International Container Transhipment Terminal. While acknowledging Tamil Nadu’s resource conservation objectives, he requested a balanced approach that allows uninterrupted material supply for nationally significant infrastructure projects while safeguarding environmental priorities.
