Lighter, durable, and Atmanirbhar—advancing the Indian Navy’s modernisation drive.
GRSE, Merlinhawk Aerospace Join Hands for Indigenous Naval Ship Composite Doors.
Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd, a leading Defence PSU, has signed a teaming agreement with Bengaluru-based Merlinhawk Aerospace Pvt Ltd to design, develop, and manufacture composite doors and hatches for Indian Navy ships. The collaboration aims to replace conventional steel doors with lighter, more durable, and corrosion-resistant composite alternatives, supporting naval modernisation and efficiency. The agreement covers the entire lifecycle—design, development, testing, manufacturing, and integration of these components, including locking mechanisms and associated systems. According to GRSE officials, the initiative not only enhances the operational performance of naval vessels but also contributes to higher indigenous content in shipbuilding. This aligns with the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision of strengthening self-reliance in defence manufacturing. By leveraging Merlinhawk Aerospace’s advanced materials expertise and GRSE’s proven shipbuilding capabilities, the partnership underscores a significant step toward indigenisation and innovation in India’s naval fleet modernisation programme.
