Landmark Japan offtake deals signal commercial maturity of India’s green hydrogen ecosystem.

India Positions Itself as Trusted Global Supplier of Green Fuels.

India is emerging as a reliable supplier in global green fuel markets, driven by the growing commercial maturity of its green hydrogen sector, said Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. Speaking at the signing of long-term offtake agreements, Sarangi said Indian clean fuels are now integral to international green hydrogen and green ammonia value chains. The agreements involve ACME Group and Japanese majors IHI Corporation and Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company. Under the deal, ACME will supply 405,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually to IHI, supported by Japan’s Contracts for Difference scheme administered by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. A separate 10-year agreement covers 100,000 tonnes per annum of green methanol to Mitsubishi from ACME’s Paradip facility. Japanese officials said India’s green hydrogen and ammonia are globally cost-competitive and vital for future decarbonisation. The momentum aligns with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to establish the country as a global export hub for green hydrogen and its derivatives.
