Vikram Solar to Establish 7.5 GWh Battery Storage Plant in Tamil Nadu.

New Oragadam facility will assemble lithium iron phosphate battery systems, with expansion plans supporting the company’s 30 GWh manufacturing target by 2030. VSL PowerHive, a wholly owned subsidiary of Vikram Solar, plans to establish a battery energy storage system (BESS) assembly plant with an annual capacity of 7.5 GWh at Oragadam near Chennai. Spread across 1.65 lakh sq ft, the facility is scheduled for inauguration in January 2027, with commercial operations expected to begin in April. The plant will assemble lithium iron phosphate (LFP)-based storage systems for utility-scale and commercial and industrial applications. Products will include liquid-cooled battery containers, battery cabinets and renewable energy-integrated storage solutions. Capacity could subsequently expand to 15 GWh. The company also plans to begin battery cell manufacturing with a 7.5 GWh programme from 2028, supporting its broader target of 30 GWh battery manufacturing capacity by 2030. Vikram Solar Chairman and Managing Director Gyanesh Chaudhary said energy storage would help deliver reliable clean power. The project aims to strengthen domestic manufacturing, create skilled jobs and support India’s growing renewable energy storage requirements.
