Hybrid, storage-linked and round-the-clock renewables redefine project design after 2025 surge.

India’s Renewable Push Shifts Toward Firm, Dispatchable Power Supply.

India’s renewable energy projects are increasingly being designed to deliver firm and dispatchable power, moving beyond intermittent generation, industry leaders said at the ET Energyworld Solar Power Congress 2026. After record renewable installations in 2025, the focus has shifted toward hybrid, storage-linked and round-the-clock (RTC) solutions that better align with grid needs and demand patterns. Radhakrishnan B, CMD of Maharashtra State Power Generation Company, said conventional generators are adapting to midday renewable peaks and evening balancing requirements through renewable bundling and enhanced thermal flexibility. Solar Energy Corporation of India is also recalibrating its strategy. Its Director (Solar), Sanjay Sharma, said SECI has moved from standalone solar and wind to FDRE, peak power and green molecule opportunities such as hydrogen and ammonia. Sanjeev Aggarwal of Hexa Climate noted that new bids increasingly resemble firm conventional supply, driven by falling storage costs and grid-responsive project design.
