From rising bills to rising rooftops, Gurgaon powers up on solar.

Gurgaon Embraces Rooftop Solar as 7,500 Applications Pour In Within Five Months.

Gurgaon is witnessing a rapid rooftop solar adoption, with nearly 7,497 applications filed in just five months, driven largely by the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Officials say the surge reflects a clear shift among urban households toward cutting electricity bills and embracing clean energy. More than 4,200 rooftop solar connections are already operational across the city. According to Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, Circle-1 recorded 4,142 applications, while Circle-2 saw 3,355, with thousands of systems already activated and subsidies disbursed. The trend is especially strong in housing societies across DLF, South City, Sushant Lok and key sectors, where solar systems now power lifts, lighting and water pumps. The Haryana government is also accelerating adoption by planning to convert all government buildings, educational institutions and registered gaushalas into solar-powered facilities by 2026–27. With a target of 2.22 lakh rooftop installations by March 2027, Gurgaon’s solar momentum marks a decisive step toward decentralised, sustainable energy.
