MDL, Tamil Nadu Ink Pact for Greenfield Shipyard on East Coast.

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), a Defence PSU under the Ministry of Defence, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Guidance Tamil Nadu to explore the development of a world-class greenfield shipyard on India’s eastern coast. The agreement was formalised on September 19 during a ceremony organised by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) in Bhavnagar, Gujarat. The MoU was signed by Biju George, Director (Shipbuilding), MDL, and Dr Darez Ahamed, MD & CEO, Guidance Tamil Nadu, in the presence of Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The initiative aims to bolster India’s maritime capabilities and align with the government’s vision of making India a global shipbuilding hub. The proposed shipyard will strengthen infrastructure on the eastern coast, support defence and commercial vessel construction, and generate investment and employment opportunities in Tamil Nadu’s maritime sector.
