JN Port Awards RSA Global Mega Container Yard Project, Raising Concerns for Existing Operators.

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has awarded Dubai-based RSA Global a 30-year licence to develop India’s largest automated empty container yard on a 62-acre site near JN Port. Backed by an investment of ₹2,580 crore, the facility will feature advanced technologies, including automated storage systems, gate automation, real-time container tracking, and a truck appointment system. Designed to handle up to 1,00,000 TEUs within five years, the project aims to streamline empty container management and strengthen the port’s logistics ecosystem. However, industry sources fear the new world-class facility could threaten the survival of nearly 74 privately operated empty container yards currently serving the port, raising concerns over potential market concentration. The project will be developed in three phases, with the first 20-acre section expected to become operational within weeks. JNPA believes the initiative will improve efficiency, reduce congestion, and support growing trade through India’s busiest container port.
