Tripura Targets 500 MW Renewable Energy Capacity by 2030

Tripura accelerates its clean energy transition with a focus on solar power, skills and sustainable development.

Tripura has set an ambitious target of achieving 500 MW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath said while launching the Tripura Clean Energy Roadmap, Green Skilling programme and TREAT initiative. The state currently has around 58.76 MW of renewable energy capacity. Nath highlighted solar power as a key driver of economic growth, technological innovation, employment and sustainable development. The Unnayan through Transformative Solar Applications (UTSA) initiative will focus on creating a skilled workforce for the growing solar sector. TREDA, along with the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission and Tripura State Electricity Corporation, is conducting training programmes including Suryamitra and Solar PV Technician courses. Supported by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and aligned with an Asian Development Bank-backed initiative, Tripura is also expanding PM-KUSUM, PM Surya Ghar, solar micro-grids, green hydrogen, battery storage, micro-hydel and biogas projects to strengthen clean energy access.
