Delhi Govt Probes Building Approvals Over Unpaid Infrastructure Charges.

The Delhi government has launched a major investigation into residential, commercial, and group housing projects that allegedly received building plan approvals without paying the mandatory Infrastructure Development Charge (IFC). According to Delhi Jal Board (DJB) Minister Parvesh Verma, preliminary findings suggest that many applicants secured approvals by using official DJB letterheads instead of valid no-objection certificates (NOCs), raising concerns over possible involvement of DJB engineers and MCD officials. An initial review of around 300 properties larger than 3,000 square metres found that nearly 70% had not deposited the required IFC. The government estimates that this has resulted in revenue losses worth thousands of crores. Authorities are now verifying approvals granted over the past five years and will recover pending dues from property owners. Those who fail to pay may face legal action, including property sealing, despite the recent reduction of IFC rates by up to 70% to ease financial burdens.
