Tata Group Denies Kerala CM’s ₹10,000 Crore Shipbuilding Investment Claim.

The Tata Group has reportedly denied claims by Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan that the conglomerate plans to invest ₹10,000 crore in a shipbuilding yard in the state. A senior Tata executive stated that no such proposal is under consideration, expressing surprise over the Chief Minister’s remarks. The clarification comes as the Central Government pushes to develop India into a global shipbuilding hub through a ₹69,725 crore support package, including funding for greenfield shipbuilding clusters. Industry experts noted that Kerala has neither identified a suitable 2,000-acre waterfront site nor initiated the planning required for such a large-scale project. Unlike states such as Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha, Kerala has not formally pursued a greenfield shipbuilding cluster. Observers believe the Chief Minister’s statement may have been aimed at projecting the state as an investment destination amid ongoing debates over major infrastructure investments and port development.
