Tata Steel is progressing steadily towards its green steel transition in the UK and the Netherlands, Chairman N Chandrasekaran informed shareholders at the company's 118th AGM.
In the UK, Tata Steel is decommissioning two blast furnaces at Port Talbot and plans to introduce Electric Arc Furnace (EAF)-based steelmaking by fiscal 2028, supported by £500 million from the UK government. In the Netherlands, the company is in discussions for government support to advance its decarbonisation efforts and aims to save €500 million through a cost transformation programme by fiscal 2026. Tata Steel Nederland will replace one of its two blast furnaces with a Direct Reduced Iron furnace and an EAF by 2030. Chandrasekaran credited Ratan Tata's enduring commitment for Tata Steel’s transformation into a global leader, underlining its core values and focus on sustainability. These efforts are set to position Tata Steel as a key player in the green steel revolution.
