State pushes for parity with Mumbai and Hyderabad to enable vertical growth and boost real estate.

Karnataka Seeks Relaxation in Building Height Norms Around Bengaluru Airports.

The Karnataka government has urged the Centre to review and relax building height restrictions around major aviation facilities in Bengaluru, citing their adverse impact on urban development and real estate activity. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar raised the issue during a meeting with Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, seeking parity with cities like Hyderabad and Mumbai, where higher building limits are allowed. The restrictions currently affect areas around Kempegowda International Airport, Jakkur Aerodrome, Yelahanka Air Force Station and HAL Airport, discouraging developers from purchasing premium FAR. The Union Minister has assured that the matter will be taken up with the Defence Ministry. The proposal aligns with Karnataka’s broader push for vertical growth, congestion easing, and smart city initiatives, alongside deliberations on a second airport location for Bengaluru.
