SHM Global Develops India’s First IRS Type-Approved Indigenous Lifeboats

Mumbai: SHM Global, a leading shipbuilding, ship management and maritime safety company, has been recognised by the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) for developing India's first indigenously manufactured IRS Type-Approved KISS 700 and PN95FA totally enclosed fire-protected lifeboats. The achievement marks a significant milestone in strengthening India's maritime manufacturing ecosystem under the Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.

The recognition ceremony was held at the IRS Headquarters in Powai, Mumbai, where Mr. Praveen K. Mishra, Managing Director, Indian Register of Shipping, felicitated SHM Global for its contribution to indigenous maritime innovation. Developed in collaboration with Palfinger Marine, the lifeboats comply with stringent international maritime safety standards and have received IRS Type Approval certification.

The KISS 700 and PN95FA lifeboats are designed as totally enclosed, fire-protected survival craft for marine and offshore applications, meeting SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) requirements. Their successful development demonstrates India's growing capability to manufacture advanced marine safety equipment that meets global quality and performance standards.

Speaking on the achievement, Praveen K. Mishra, Managing Director of IRS, congratulated SHM Global for successfully developing and certifying a highly specialised product that had never before been manufactured in India. He encouraged more domestic manufacturers to pursue indigenous production and IRS certification to reduce reliance on imports and strengthen India's maritime self-reliance.
