“Shaping India’s Future Mobility – From Land to Water.”
Systra India to Lead Feasibility Study for Water Metro Projects in 20 Cities.
Building on the success of the Kochi Water Metro, the Government of India is planning to launch water-based urban transit systems in 18–20 cities, with Systra India leading the feasibility study. The study will assess travel demand, future mobility trends, socio-economic benefits, and environmental impact, while also identifying routes, designing terminals, and developing operational plans to ensure efficient commuter services. Hari Somalraju, MD of Systra India, emphasised that water metros would complement land-based transit and help reduce environmental stress. Systra is already the general consultant for Kochi Metro Phase Two and has signed an MoU for the 46-km Visakhapatnam Metro, overseeing design reviews, tenders, procurement, and construction supervision. Additionally, Systra has partnered with the Telangana government to deploy Construction Project Management Solutions (CPMs)—a digital monitoring tool expected to improve project efficiency by 20–25%. With these initiatives, Systra is positioned as a key player in India’s sustainable mobility transformation.
