Prime minister calls milestone a major step towards a green, self-reliant and energy-secure India.

Modi Hails 30 Lakh Rooftop Solar Installations Under PM Surya Ghar Scheme

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday welcomed the milestone of 30 lakh households installing rooftop solar systems under the PM Surya Ghar Scheme, calling it a significant achievement in India’s clean energy transition. The remarks followed a statement by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi, who said the country had taken a historic leap towards a solar-powered future. Responding in a post on X, Modi congratulated beneficiaries for adopting rooftop solar and highlighted its role in boosting household savings, sustainability and energy self-reliance. He said the scheme reflects the government’s commitment to building an energy-secure, green and future-ready India. The PM Surya Ghar scheme aims to promote decentralised solar power by enabling households to generate their own electricity, reduce dependence on conventional energy sources and lower power bills. With 30 lakh installations completed, the programme has emerged as one of the largest rooftop solar initiatives globally, supporting India’s broader climate and renewable energy goals.
