Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata has raised a strong objection to the proceedings of the September 17 Tata Sons board meeting, challenging the validity of the resolution to reappoint N. Chandrasekaran as chairman. The board had approved Chandrasekaran’s continuation by a 4–1 vote, with Noel Tata opposing the resolution. In a letter to Tata Sons’ company secretary, Noel Tata alleged that the voting had taken place under certain conditions that were subsequently breached. He therefore described the resolution as “null and void ab initio” and sought a public acknowledgement and correction of the proceedings. The dispute follows Chandrasekaran’s earlier decision in August not to seek another term after his current tenure ends in February 2027. Tata Trusts has maintained that this decision had been accepted and should be treated as final. The development has intensified the ongoing debate over Tata Sons’ governance, leadership and future direction.
