Muzaffarpur woman’s solar pump success becomes a model for rural transformation.

PM Modi Lauds Bihar’s ‘Solar Didi’, Calls for Nationwide Solar Adoption.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the 125th episode of Mann Ki Baat, hailed the inspiring story of Devki from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, fondly known as Solar Didi. By adopting a solar pump, she not only transformed her own life but also boosted irrigation across her village, enabling water supply to over 40 acres of farmland. Farmers have since joined her initiative, leading to greener fields and higher incomes. Modi praised her entrepreneurial spirit, noting that she now receives payments digitally via UPI and enjoys immense respect in her community. He urged citizens nationwide to adopt solar energy, highlighting its potential to revolutionise agriculture and livelihoods through solar pumps and rice mills. Stressing India’s abundant solar resources, he said solar power is both an economic and social force. Modi also remembered engineer M. Visvesvaraya ahead of Engineers’ Day and highlighted the Vishwakarma Yojana, supporting traditional artisans and craftsmen.
