Ship Operators Call for Clear Transit Rules to Restore Hormuz Shipping.

Global shipping executives have urged governments to establish clear and enforceable rules to allow normal vessel movement through the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that a potential peace deal between the United States and Iran must explicitly guarantee safe passage. The call was made during industry discussions in Athens ahead of Posidonia, the biennial global shipping exhibition, and at events organised alongside a conference hosted by Capital Link. Pankaj Khanna, president of Heidmar Maritime Holdings Corp, said shipowners need a defined operational framework before resuming Gulf transits, noting that one of his company’s vessels has been stuck in the region for three months. He highlighted the human cost, with seafarers missing major family milestones. Greece’s Shipping Minister Vasilis Kikilias warned that conflicts are unpredictable and urged that global trade and shipping be kept out of geopolitical disputes. Centrofin Management CEO Yiannis Procopiou added that despite insurance availability, Hormuz remains a high-risk route without clear rules of engagement, underscoring the industry’s demand for certainty before operations can normalise.
