Government push and policy reforms make India an increasingly attractive maritime hub.
Global Shipping Giants Queue Up to Register Vessels Under Indian Flag.
Several global shipping companies, including Dynacom Tankers, CMA CGM and DP World-owned Unifeeder, are set to register ships under the Indian flag in the coming days, reflecting rising interest in India’s maritime registry. Blueroute Shipping, part of Dynacom Tankers owned by Greek tycoon George Prokopiou, will register a bulk carrier through its IFSC unit in GIFT City, Gujarat. Unifeeder will register its first Indian-flagged container vessel with a capacity of around 1,800 TEUs, while CMA CGM will reflag the 2,600-TEU vessel Vila Do Conde, marking its fifth container ship registered in India. Some registrations have been delayed as vessels remain stuck in the Gulf due to the ongoing regional conflict. Indian companies are also expanding fleets, with Seven Islands Shipping adding a product tanker and Alphard Maritime registering a bulk carrier. Officials said enquiries are rising, aided by government reforms and an upcoming upgraded online ship registration platform aimed at faster approvals.
